About The Consultancy
Balanced Horse Care is an online equine consultancy offering personalised, whole-horse guidance to horse owners across the UK and beyond. Consultations cover nutrition, training, environment, welfare, behaviour, and routine — approached holistically, because everything in a horse's life is connected.
Anyone who owns or cares for a horse and wants thoughtful, independent guidance. Whether you're a first-time owner feeling overwhelmed, an experienced horse person who wants a fresh perspective, or someone managing a specific challenge — consultations are tailored to your situation and your horse. dd an answer to this item.
No. Balanced Horse Care is not a veterinary service and does not provide veterinary diagnosis, treatment, or medical advice. If your horse has a health concern, injury, or illness, please consult a qualified veterinary surgeon. Consultations focus on management, welfare, nutrition, training, and environment — not clinical medicine.
The consultancy is run by someone with a BSc (Hons) in Animal Welfare and Management, completed natural horsemanship courses, alongside years of practical experience working with horses across disciplines, ages, and management systems. Ongoing professional development ensures guidance is grounded in current equine science and welfare research.
How Consultations Work
All consultations are conducted by phone call or online via video call (Zoom or Microsoft Teams). This means you can access support wherever you are in the UK — or internationally — without needing anyone to travel to your yard.
Once your booking is confirmed, you'll receive a short intake questionnaire to complete before the call. This covers your horse's history, current management, diet, routine, and what you'd like to focus on. It means we can make the most of the time together rather than spending the call on background information.
Following the call, you'll receive a written summary of the key points discussed and the recommendations made. For the Whole-Horse Review package, this is a more detailed written report (typically 4–6 pages) with a prioritised action plan. You'll also have a window for follow-up questions by email, depending on your package.
Single Consultations are 60 minutes. Whole-Horse Reviews are 90 minutes, plus the written report that follows. Ongoing Support sessions are 60 minutes per month. If you're not sure which is right for you, get in touch and we can have a brief chat to help you decide.
Yes — just let us know when you get in touch. If you have multiple horses you'd like to discuss, we can talk through the options and find the most practical approach, which may involve a longer session or separate bookings depending on the complexity.
Yes. If a hands on visit is likely to be more beneficial to the horse/owner then personal site visits within the UK can be arranged. Particularly useful for training techniques and multiple horses.
Pricing and Booking
Single Consultations start from £50, Whole-Horse Reviews from £120, and Ongoing Support from £75 per month. Full details of what each package includes are on the Services page. If you're unsure which option suits your needs, feel free to get in touch for a no-obligation conversation.
Use the contact form or send an email to get in touch. We'll have a brief conversation to make sure the right package is chosen for your situation, then confirm a date and time that works for you. You'll receive a calendar invite and joining link ahead of the call.
Life with horses is unpredictable — rescheduling is absolutely fine with reasonable notice. Please aim to give at least 48 hours' notice where possible so the slot can be offered to someone else. Get in touch by email, and we'll find an alternative time. Late cancellation charges may apply.
No. Ongoing Support is flexible — you can pause or cancel at any time. There's no minimum term and no cancellation fee. It's designed to be genuinely useful, not to lock you in.
What's Covered?
Consultations can cover any aspect of horse management and welfare, including nutrition and forage, exercise and training approaches, stable and field management, enrichment and routine, behaviour and communication, and general welfare assessment. The focus is always on the whole horse — not just one isolated area.
Yes. Behaviour is often a reflection of something else going on — pain, stress, an unmet need, or a management factor. A consultation can help explore the possible underlying causes and suggest practical approaches. For complex or potentially pain-related behaviour, a veterinary assessment may also be recommended alongside the consultation.
Yes — nutrition is one of the most common areas covered. This includes reviewing your horse's current diet, discussing forage quality and quantity, looking at supplementation, and considering how diet relates to body condition, energy levels, and behaviour. Forage analysis interpretation can also be discussed
In many cases, yes. Management, nutrition, and environment all play a significant role in supporting horses with conditions such as EMS, PPID, laminitis, gastric ulcers, and others. Consultations can complement veterinary care by focusing on the management side — always working alongside, not instead of, your vet's advice.
Please note: Balanced Horse Care is not a veterinary service and does not provide veterinary diagnosis, treatment, or medical advice.
For any health or medical concerns regarding your horse, always consult a qualified veterinary surgeon.
